Happy Winter Solstice,

here's to the dawn of a new era!

Aurora (II), ink, acrylic, on copper leaf on canvas, 120 x 100 cm, 2024.

As an artist, my works convey far more than I can with words, so I'd like to share this new work with you:
Aurora (II), ink, acrylic, on copper leaf on canvas, 120 x 100 cm, 2024. May it serve as an inspiration and companion throughout the winter solstice season and into the new year.
This time has been revered in many cultures, including ancient European ones, as that of the feminine principle: the Dark One, the Earth, that holds and protects the Seed for the new year so that it can germinate and grow. Over time, this idea found its way into the Christian faith, with mother and child becoming Mary and Jesus.

While in the northern hemisphere, the seeds are hidden deep in the earth and the longest night calls us within, in the southern hemisphere, it is the opposite: the longest day, the light - the sun - is at its peak. A reminder that our lives are cyclical, like a lemniscate representing the continual transition from one state to the next, from one cycle to another.
This seed can symbolize a variety of things, including a New Self, a new talent, a new project, a new purpose in life, or a new era. It contains the entire, authentic blueprint that has not (yet) been altered, questioned, or corrupted by the outside world. It requires us as a seedbed. We establish the conditions for this (re)grow and (re)birth. Only our doubts about our ability can impede or even prevent germination. Can we preserve the authentic as soon as the seed germinates and reveals itself to the world? Do we feel we can protect and nourish? Can we transform the tension between withdrawal and emergence?

All of these qualities are evident in this work. What does it convey to you?
I invite you to view my works as gateways, providing insights into aspects and dimensions of yourself that are beyond this world and its limitations.
May this work encourage you to recognize and nourish your own inner seed and its significance for you, so that it might grow and bloom in the coming year.

Happy Winter Solstice, Merry Christmas, and a New Year in which we can all express our True Selves and talents to the world!

Essence & presence

New works 2024

Acrylic, ink on canvas and acrylic, ink on copper leaf on canvas, 2023-24.

What is our authentic core, our origin, our essence, from which we have evolved through the spiral of time and space into an individual presence?
The image of the "inner egg" or "inner seed" became quite apparent to me, while pondering this question. Similar to eggs, seeds are the origin of all living things. Both hold the authentic, whole blueprint (the essence), all of the developmental potential, and the individual signature (presence) of the plant, animal, or human.
If we return to our core, our seed, we return to our original self - to our "default settings" and our entire potential.

Here lies the all-encompassing power that a seedling musters to pierce the asphalt, or a chick to break open the eggshell.

These new works  feel enigmatic: painted in a new technique on copper leaf on canvas or wood, they are atmospheric, ethereal, abstract, and anthropomorphic, appearing antique and futuristic, old and new at the same time. They're reminiscent of religious ikons and modernist abstract paintings. They vibrate in a field where idea and matter, intention and form coexist and flow into one another, the field from where we are always able to tap into our entire potential.

I enjoy bringing my art straight into people’s daily lives, to the spaces they regularly live/work in, to their houses, office buildings, the public space and landscape.

Why?
I have experienced many times that my art works allow people to easily connect with the space, the site and the building they will live or work in.

My Art is the missing link between people and architecture

With my art works, I am able to create a holistic relationship and communication between people and architecture on an emotional, physical, psychological AND metaphysical level. A quality reserved for art and an essential reason why art should not be missing from any architecture project!

My architecture-related artworks are always created individually in and for the respective spatial context. In doing so, I include all levels of the given architecture, people, place, materials and I develop an art work, that is a symbiosis of all these elements, and that, as a whole, is more than the sum of its parts. My art works are the link, the bridge and the glue between architecture and humans.

My art and architecture projects include two and three dimensional site specific art in office buildings, private houses, urban public spaces as well as gardens, and, upcoming, also large, landscape and environmental art projects.
